The New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia used to be the longest steel arch bridge in the world. Then China went and built one longer than 1,700 feet and the claim to fame was lost. I wonder if they pulled a Price-is-Right-strategy and built theirs 1,701 feet? I digress…. So now, this bridge is monumented as the longest in the Western Hemisphere. Oy, the competition!
It’s a feat of engineering; I’m sure the Discovery Channel did a show. If you want to know more, look it up on Wikipedia. I just thought it was pretty.
