We Interrupt Our Regularly Scheduled Programming

Looks like I have to take a forced blog sabbatical.

I’m in Hawaii (yay), and the internet at my charming inn can’t handle the burden of building a blog post (boo). Hopefully upcoming hotels will be better, as even my MiFi only has one bar (boo hiss).

But, there’s good news to share…I won the Rand McNally RV Stories writing contest!

Not only did I win the monthly category, which includes a variety of fancy prizes, I am also the GRAND PRIZE FINALIST, winning $5,000 cash. Shazzam!

Thank you for your commitment to voting as often as you could. If you don’t remember, you were wise and blocked it from your memory—like birthing pain.

Congratulations Paula. Both on being in Hawaii and winning the contest! You deserve it … one more way to show that your truly are a professional making money off your writing.

Finished reading Molokai about 6 months ago. Wonderful book about a 5 year old Hawaiian girl in the early 20th century who gets leprosy and is sent to a colony on Molokai. The natives were really suceptable to that disease. Apparently you can go tour the colony–book is fiction but setting and scenario and priests and nuns who ran the place were real. Consider visiting and tell us all about it!

Nancy-thanks for the perspective on bring a professional writer! And as always, for a book rec!

Your Comments Paula: Fantastic!! So glad you won the Rand McNally awards…you are very deserving. Have a great time in Hawaii…from my trip there seveal years ago I still remember the high prices. You will no doubt need to use some of your winnnings to enjoy the islands. If you get to Maui go to Mama’s Fish House…and bring lots of money. Great food and $$$$$$$. Have a great time. June

June-you’re exactly right. That prize money goes straight to the Hawaii coffers! Thanks for the restaurant tip!

Wow – congratulations on winning the contest – what great news – and what a nice – early – birthday present. Enjoy Hawaii!

Congrats on a well deserved honor and cook prizes!

Congratulations! You are one of my travel blog heroes. I hope you are having a good time in Hawaii and that you eventually find some reliable wifi so we can follow your travels. We will be visiting Hawaii in February. If you are staying in Honolulu, do you like where you are staying—other than the unreliable internet access?

Congrats and maybe the lack of internet power is a sign from the universe to take in everything and save the writing for a rainy day at a less attractive destination

How wonderful and how deserved! I look forward to your insights and photos and humor every day. But I’ll also enjoy knowing that you are having an opportunity to relax a bit and enjoy that lovely sweet-smelling state.

I would also recommend Molokai as a good read and hope you get to Lahaina.

Have a happy birthday there too!
